Safe Superintelligence: a 32 billion dollar valuation resting entirely on a founder
Key takeaways
- The last confirmed valuation is 32 billion dollars, reported in April 2025 on a 2 billion dollar raise.
- Nvidia invested 5 billion dollars in July 2026. The valuation of that round has not been disclosed, so the most recent priced mark is now well over a year old.
- The company has about 50 employees, has released no product, reports no revenue and has never published research.
- Its co-founder and then chief executive Daniel Gross left for Meta in July 2025, after Meta had attempted to acquire the company. Ilya Sutskever took the chief executive role.
Every investment carries some element of faith. Safe Superintelligence is the case where faith is almost the entire thesis, and the company does not pretend otherwise. It has deliberately avoided commercial product releases and short-term revenue, on the stated view that the research should be pursued without those pressures. That is a coherent position. It is also, for an outside buyer, an almost complete absence of anything to analyse.
What is on the record
| Figure | What it is | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| 5 billion dollars | Raised at a valuation of 5 billion dollars | September 2024 |
| 30 billion dollars | Valuation of a round led by Greenoaks Capital | March 2025 |
| 32 billion dollars | Valuation on a 2 billion dollar raise | TechCrunch, 12 April 2025 |
| 5 billion dollars | Nvidia equity investment, valuation not disclosed | TechCrunch, 27 July 2026 |
| About 50 | Employees | Reported July 2026 |
Sutskever's comment on the Nvidia partnership was that the company has research worthy of scaling up and that access to large Nvidia systems will let it do so. No product, customer, revenue or research output accompanies that statement.
The key-man question, already tested once
Meta attempted to acquire Safe Superintelligence after the 32 billion dollar valuation. Sutskever declined, and Meta then hired co-founder and chief executive Daniel Gross, who left in July 2025 for Meta Superintelligence Labs. Sutskever took the chief executive role. A thesis that rested on two people now rests on one, and the mechanism by which that happened is the same mechanism that could happen again.
What a buyer is taking on before a listing
- No revenue, no product, no customers and no published research against which to test the premise.
- A stale price. The last third-party-confirmed valuation is April 2025, and Nvidia's July 2026 round price was not disclosed, so any 2026 offer is priced off an eighteen-month-old mark.
- Key-man risk of the most concentrated kind, demonstrated once already.
- Dependence on a single compute and capital counterparty following the Nvidia arrangement.
- Reported milestone conditions attached to the financings, whose terms are not public, so a minority buyer cannot see what sits above them.
Exposure before a listing
Several secondary marketplaces list pages for the company, but no company statement on transfer restrictions has been published, and quoted prices on such venues are indicative rather than transaction prices. The category precedent is worth noting: in May 2026 Anthropic publicly named eight platforms as unauthorised to facilitate transfers of its stock and stated that unapproved sales are void on its books. Unicorn Private buys where the company consents and the paper is clean, and on a name with no financial disclosure at all the answer to the price question is usually that there is no basis to answer it.
The short answer
Safe Superintelligence was valued at 32 billion dollars in April 2025 on the strength of its founders. It has about 50 people, no product, no revenue and no published research, and its most recent round price has not been disclosed. It is a venture bet wearing a late-stage valuation, and it sits outside the kind of position this research covers for exactly that reason.

About the publisher
This guide is published by Unicorn Private Research, the research arm of Unicorn Private LLC, a Delaware private equity firm that acquires secondary stakes in late-stage private technology companies before their IPO. The firm invests only in established companies already valued above one billion dollars, not in early-stage start-ups, and its founders have been active in private equity and startup investing since 2005.
Unicorn Private is the first firm in the pre-IPO secondary market to create an open and entirely free research centre in sixteen languages: guides, a tracker of the largest private technology companies, a glossary, and a frequently asked questions section, free to read at no cost, with every figure carrying a date and a link to a public source.
