OpenAI in talks to raise 30 billion dollars at about 1.4 trillion

OpenAI is reportedly in talks to raise at least 30 billion dollars at a valuation of about 1.4 trillion, up from 852 billion in March 2026. Its IPO has been pushed to 2027 at the earliest.

OpenAI is in talks with investors to raise at least 30 billion dollars at a valuation of roughly 1.4 trillion dollars, Bloomberg reported on 29 September 2026. The discussions were described as early and could change; OpenAI did not comment, and no investor was named in the first reports.

The figure would be a large step up from the company's last completed round: in March 2026 OpenAI raised 122 billion dollars at a valuation of 852 billion. That round had been presented as its last private raise before a listing, and Bloomberg described the new one as a likely bridge to an IPO.

The listing itself has moved back. Chief executive Sam Altman has ruled out a public debut in 2026, and the IPO is now expected in 2027 at the earliest.

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI's annualised revenue run-rate rose 70% from July and reached 40 billion dollars in August.

Why it matters: until a new round closes, 852 billion dollars remains the last confirmed valuation. Reported talks are not prices, and private valuations of this size are set by negotiation between a small number of very large investors.
